Poor Things - PETzvAl Lens test

This shot was deeply inspired by Poor Things. The whole film is gorgeous and has such interesting and inspiring cinematography, but there were these shots that I just couldn't stop staring at. The bokeh seemed to be almost swirling around the edge of the frame. With research I learned this effect was created with the Petzval lens, a 19th century portrait lens that has been retrofitted for film! I just had to try replicate it in 3D!

I'm working on a few more shots inspired by the movie Poor Things. At the end of it, my goal (or hope) is to create a better process or tool for this kind of effect. I would love to share my process when I do! Stay Tuned. :)
